If you’ve adopted a rescue animal, you probably know that trust isn’t earned overnight. It can take weeks or even months for a once-shy pet to feel comfortable and safe in a new home. However, when that bond finally forms, it can show up in the simplest and most heartwarming ways.

Sometimes it’s following you from room to room, curling up beside you, or quietly watching you go about your day. A touching video by @mystraycheesecat on Instagram shows a formerly feral cat who has grown so attached to his owner that he refuses to miss a single meal with her.

The video begins with the owner preparing a sandwich while sitting down for a meal, with Cheese comfortably perched on her lap. As she starts eating, the cat begins softly meowing, which the on-screen text humorously introduces with the line, “Eating with Cheese always be like…”

Cat doesn’t leave owner alone when it’s time to eat

According to the on-screen text, ever since Cheese was adopted, she hasn’t had a single meal without him nearby. The affectionate cat gazes up at her and gently rubs his face under her chin, a gesture that clearly shows how attached he has become. Even when he doesn’t seem interested in the food itself, the orange cat still insists on sitting with her parent while she eats.

The owner also shares more about Cheese’s background during the clip. She explains that he is an ex-feral cat who has been living with her for about eight months. While he has become very affectionate toward her, he remains cautious around others, including her husband, who is seated nearby during the video. She notes that the cat appears a bit more nervous than usual because of this, but she reassures viewers that he has become much calmer and gentler over time.

Despite his curiosity about food, the owner points out that Cheese never steals anything from her plate. Instead, he waits patiently while she cuts small pieces from a block of cheese to give him as a treat. As she feeds him, she pets him affectionately, and the cat leans into the attention, clearly enjoying the quiet moment.

The clip quickly attracted attention from viewers who were touched by Cheese’s story and the bond he shares with his owner. One commenter wrote that it makes them happy to see a once fearful cat become so affectionate and comfortable. Another viewer said it was clear that Cheese completely trusts his owner. Someone else joked that after everything he went through, he has turned into the ultimate “Velcro cat.”
