A scared shelter cat spent his first few hours in foster care hiding from everyone. However, he soon surprised his caregiver with several positive signs that suggested a much happier future ahead.

The young rescue cat, named Lido, lovingly called “Mouse,” arrived at his foster home feeling frightened and unsure, much like many shelter animals. However, within just one day, he began taking small steps toward feeling safe and comfortable.

When Lido first arrived at his foster home, he wasted no time finding places to hide. The white-and-black cat tucked himself beneath furniture and squeezed into tight corners, keeping a cautious eye on his new surroundings.

His caregiver described him as “the most fearful cat in the shelter,” but quickly noted that his behavior seemed rooted in anxiety. “He just seems like a cute little timid mouse to me,” the creator explained in the rescue cat video.

Everything changed when another kitty named Granny Lu entered the room. Before that, Lido showed little interest in leaving the safety of his carrier. But as soon as Granny Lu appeared, the nervous rescue cat slowly started moving forward and coming out of his shell.

As Granny Lu calmly watched from nearby, Lido became more confident. He started exploring the room and checking out his surroundings. The caregiver saw this as a positive sign and believed that Lido could benefit from the company of other cats.

Many rescue cats need several days before they feel comfortable enough to eat, drink, or use a litter box in a new home. That’s why Lido’s quick progress was such an important milestone.

His caregiver called the behavior remarkable, especially since it happened on his very first day in foster care. At one point, he spent roughly 15 to 20 minutes meticulously cleaning his fur. “He was just cleaning, cleaning,” the creator said.

The rescue cat video quickly attracted attention from animal lovers, many of whom found themselves charmed by Lido’s timid personality. “Awww that’s so amazing!!!! Such a perfect guy to get out of the shelter and discover his adorable little personality,” one viewer commented. Another couldn’t get over the kitten’s neat appearance, writing, “He is such a little mouse. So clean.”
