A sweet Instagram video from @seniorboybruce shows a cat named Trout and a Golden Retriever named Bruce being true friends to each other as they share a little snack. In the video, Bruce takes a carrot stick from his owner’s hand, chomps it down, and drops the broken-up bits right onto the couch so Trout can eat too. As the on-screen caption says, “true friendship is sharing your carrot stick.”

Golden Retriever doesn’t mind sharing his carrot with the cat as they’re true friends

Trout has his head down the entire time, waiting for tiny pieces, while the Golden Retriever proves they are true friends by seeming perfectly happy to share the carrot. In the post’s caption, the owner jokes, “Watching Bruce & Trout share a carrot stick together was absolutely worth cleaning the couch right after this,” adding, “They honestly have a great system going. Bruce takes a big chomp that breaks everything up into little pieces so that Trout can have all the tiny scraps!” The caption concludes, “They really make the perfect team.”

Their friendship did not come out of nowhere — a video from last year shows Trout becoming attached to Bruce as the owner wrote, “I never expected Trout to become so obsessed with Bruce, but my goodness he is falling more in love with him every day.” It also explained that Trout would seek Bruce out just to curl up next to him, while Bruce slowly adjusted after the kittens first came home, unsure of him.

Cats and dogs can form strong bonds when they share space and feel safe with each other while building the same little routines over time, and that seems to be what happened here. Bruce trusts Trout enough to let him near his snacks, and Trout trusts Bruce enough to stay right by his side.
