There is no shame on this cat’s face while eating butter, and it shows. Instagram user @chanellegarrow shared a video featuring Gnocchi, a magnificently round orange cat, standing on the kitchen counter like a gargoyle guarding a treasure. And the treasure is a stick of butter. The cat has been going at it while his mom is somewhere between disbelief and surrender, asking, “Are you eating freaking butter? Gnocchi?!”

As for the cat, he does not so much as flinch while eating butter. Even when his mom catches him red-handed, he does not run. Instead, he squints fiercely, appearing impossibly smug, as if he has been interrupted during a very important meeting.
Moreover, he looks like he has zero intention of backing down from this confrontation. Meanwhile, the caption under the video says, “He was in fact eating the butter.” But his face says something far more defiant.
Cats are obligate carnivores with a nose specialized in hunting high-fat and high-calorie food sources. Butter, essentially concentrated animal fat, hits a cat’s brain in a way that screams jackpot.
Gnocchi’s rigid power stance is a cat guarding his resource. The feline is not sorry because, from his perspective, he just successfully hunted the butter dish. So, for all he knows, his mom can back off.
The internet, of course, understood Gnocchi’s shenanigans completely. Viewers flooded the comments section to salute the lawless audacity of an orange cat in his element, with one remarking on the dynamic with, “His face says ‘My house my rules.’”
