Cat Expects ‘Royalty’ Treatment at Bedtime for a Reason

Milo the cat wants things a certain way, and he expects the household to respect it. In a hilarious Instagram video from @mr.milothechonk, the cat’s owner explains that “Milo has a strict bedtime of 11pm.” Still, a couple of nights earlier, the humans committed what can only be described as a life-altering act of kindness. In that, they carried Milo upstairs in his bed — something Milo loved a little too much.

Cat expects owner to carry to carry him to bed after she did it once

In the video, the cat looked too comfortable to disturb during bedtime, so his owner decided, “I carried him up in his bed since he looked so comfy” — and that one decision changed everything.

The next night, Milo did what he always does to announce curfew. In the on-screen caption, the owner wrote, “Well tonight he was doing his usual staring letting us know it’s time for bed,” so his owner headed upstairs, prompting Milo to follow “like normal.” But something was off. His owner wrote, “He seemed like he wanted something else.. And he didn’t seem happy at all.”

Then Milo “started meowing at the door,” as he led his owner back downstairs and sat in his bed, waiting — because the bed, apparently, is now meant to be transported. The on-screen caption reads, “I guess he wants to be carried up to bed like royalty now.” As soon as the owner took the bed upstairs, Milo “jumped right off” and “got comfy immediately,” leaving his owner to announce, “I’ve created a monster.”

The video’s caption says, “If you do something nice once, Milo expects it forever.” It is funny, but cats are big on routines, and they are excellent at connecting actions with outcomes — so if you chauffeured them to bed once and they found it comfortable, their brain would file it under preferred service, expecting you to repeat. And this household, the cat gets bedtime services — at least that is what the video establishes.
